6 Ways to Keep Your Foot Healthy

The feet are one of the most important parts of the human body. They enable us to stand, walk, move, play sports, dance and the list goes on.

According to a recent survey conducted in the US, it has been found that almost 77 percent of people have foot problems, but most of them have refused to see a podiatrist.

They fail to realize that if our feet suffer damage, we may be left handicapped seeking support to even perform basic life activities. Common problems like arthritis, bunions, and tendonitis can hugely limit us from doing our daily jobs.

So, before any severe issue is triggered, here are a few ways through which you can take care of your feet and make sure they are clean and healthy.

  1. Maintain a healthy body weight

The entire weight of the body is imposed on our feet. People who are obese and have unhealthy body weights very commonly experience foot pains in the heels or in the toes. This is because the feet are unable to carry the body weight of the given individual.

Therefore, maintaining a good and healthy body weight not only helps to keep away physiological problems like diabetes but also ensures healthy feet.

Obesity can also hinder the normal blood circulation to the feet and can result in frequent inflammations and sometimes even paralysis of the feet.

  1. Regularly rinse your feet

Dirt accumulation in the feet cannot always be seen from the naked eye. But if you let it accumulate, it may result in serious issues.

Therefore, clean and rinse your feet daily with lukewarm water and shampoo. Use a soft sponge and dab your feet to absorb excess water.

Also, be careful when you’re using socks. Socks or stockings made of cotton are best for every foot. They facilitate proper ventilation and can keep the skin airy and healthy. Avoid wearing used socks, as they contain dirt and sweat which can lead to skin infections.

  1. Don’t share footwear

Like underwear, footwear also shouldn’t be shared. Footwear contains dirt and sweat and becomes the breeding place for many harmful bacteria and pathogens. For example, conditions like athlete’s foot are highly contagious and they generally spread through contact.

In open areas, always use boots to safeguard yourself, and never exchange hosiery or footwear with people.

  1. Use high-quality footwear

Most people tend to spend hefty on clothes and completely neglect footwear. This is the wrong approach. Feet are the sole organs that carry your whole body weight. Therefore, the comfort of the feet should be a foremost concern for all people.

Wearing tight shoes and high heels is quite uncomfortable for the feet and can frequently cause painful blisters that hinder our movement. Invest in shoes that fit right for you and provide the optimum cushioning for your feet’ needs.

  1. Trim your toenails regularly.

Trimming the toenails regularly can improve your foot health in many ways. Dust accumulates in the long nails and can cause various fungal and pathogenic infections.

Also, not cutting your nails can result in a condition called in-growing nails, where the nail grows into the toe, resulting in excruciating pain.

  1. Examine your feet

Perform a thorough self-examination of the feet at least once a week. Check for any discolorations in the skin colors, damage to the nails, or scaling or peeling off of the skin. If these are not treated as soon as possible, they can result in serious skin disorders with fatal consequences.

This regular examination will keep you informed of any changes that occur in your foot health. If you notice anything anomalous and weird, contact a professional immediately.

Over to you…

Feet are the organs that help us move and explore the world. Without it, you will be paralyzed, not denying that people around the globe are accomplishing big things with missing body parts.

There’s a saying, that humans don’t understand the significance of a thing unless they lose it. Don’t be that person. If you’re facing problems with your feet, see a doctor or a foot specialist immediately, don’t wait for the time of no return.
